The National Initiative of Kurdistan (ÎNK) issues a statement on the attacks against Kurdish workers in Düzce and Zonguldak

TO THE PUBLIC OF KURDISTAN

We strongly condemn the racist attacks carried out against the labourers of Kurdistan in Zonguldak and Düzce.

Racism is not a condition that can be ignored, played down, or cheapened behind the veil of a psychological illness. Racism is a deliberate choice; it is carried out directly, and it is a systematic and merciless political decision. To explain this phenomenon through the relationship between a patient and an illness serves no purpose other than concealing the responsibility of the perpetrators and obscuring and covering up the crime. Racist acts must be clearly defined as a criminal and sociological phenomenon, in terms of the relationship between the crime, the perpetrator and the victim.

Failing to respond as required, and glossing over such acts with bookish, feeble and softened phrases such as “we condemn” or “these acts sadden people”, is neither an act of conscience nor does it ease the conscience of society. We reject, in unambiguous terms, every racist attack against Kurdish labourers who are forced by necessity to leave their own geography as seasonal workers. These racist attacks are a clear expression of the deep hatred and intolerance harboured against the Kurdish nation.

As long as the Kurdish nation is not governed on its own land by its own free will, these attacks, this oppression and this victimisation will not come to an end. The only way for the Kurdish nation to determine its destiny freely and to no longer face such attacks is the establishment of an independent and free Kurdish state.

As the National Initiative of Kurdistan, we call on the entire Kurdish people to confront this reality, to rise to their feet, to stand together and to take ownership of their future.
